The tenderness of saying good-bye to a loved one is depicted beautifully in this lyrical and romantic-style solo, an image that will inspire students. Many patterns are found throughout that will be helpful in learning, including melodic sequences in the right-hand melody and harmonic sequences in the left hand. Challenges of the piece include projecting the melody over the lush accompaniment, legato pedal and using rubato for an expressive performance.
