Form: Opera based on the comedy play The Gamblers of 1832 by Nikolai Gogol, for six male solo voices and large orchestra (with 2 Harps, Piano, and bass Balalaika).
Composed: Begun on 28 December 1941, continued in May and June 1942, but abandoned after composing about 50 minutes of the score. of the twenty-five scenes, the first seven and most of the eighth completed. Written at Kuibyshev (Samara).
Duration: Unfinished: approx. 47 min.
