Description

La Belle Excentrique is a suite of three dances (Marche franco-lunaire, Valse du mystérieux baiser dans l'œil, Cancan grand-mondain) and an instrumental ritornello (Grande Ritournelle), composed by Satie in response to a commission from the French avant-garde dancer and choreographer Caryathis for her first Major post-war recital. Jean Cocteau contributed to the work as costume designer and author (he also coined the title La Belle Excentrique). First composed for piano four-hands (1920), then for small orchestra (1921), the suite was premiered in June 1921 at the Théâtre du Colisée.
