Description
According to recent research, the offertory "Benedictus sit Deus", K. 117 (66a) is identical to the "Offertory", K. 47b that was deemed lost. It was intended for the dedication of the orphanage church am Rennweg in Vienna where it was performed on 7 December 1768. Mozart most probably composed the work in the months of October and / or November of the same year. in Leopold Mozart's catalogue of works it is listed as "a great offertory à 4 Vocibus &c 2 Violins &c: Clarinis &c 1768".
