Description
Paquita is a two-act ballet choreographed by 19th century French dancer and ballet master Joseph Mazilier. It was originally set to music by Édouard Deldevez in 1846 and premiered early that year at the Salle Le Peletier by the Paris Opera Ballet.
The ballet was later revived in 1881 by famed French ballet dancer Marius Ivanovich Petipa and included additional music composed by Ludwig Minkus (1826-1917). Paquita tells the story of the young Romani girl Paquita, who is of noble birth, and how she saves and subsequently marries French officer Lucien d'Hervilly.
This suite was orchestrated by William McDermott.
