Description
After his first piano concerto, Shostakovich interrupted his work on piano compositions for ten years. Only in 1924 he writes his second Piano Sonata, which, in its complete structure underlines the innovatory power of the composer. Tone rows, full of tnesion (among them appears for the first time, in the main them of the finale, the sequence D - E-flat - C - B - the German spelling of these notes yelds Shostakovich's monogram), demonstate Shostakovich's newly developed seneibility for tonality in which the diminished minor subdominant, for example, plays an important role.
