Description

Georg Philipp Telemann's cantata "Ich will den Kreuzweg gerne gehen" forms part of the seven remaining pieces of the cantata cycle by Erdmann Neumeister which Telemann presumably set to music in its entirety. The pastor Erdmann Neumeister (1671-1756), who studied and taught in Leipzig before settling in Weissenfels, wrote this cycle for the court Kapellmeister Johann Philipp Krieger (1649-1725).

Krieger set the texts to music for the first time around 1700 and performed them at the Weissenfels court chapel. Although this cycle was set many times, only pieces by Johann Kuhnau and the cantata "Nichts ist süßer als die Liebe" by Emanuel Kegel have survived, in addition to Telemann's cantatas.

  1. Aria: Ich will den Kreuzweg gerne gehen
  2. Rezitativo: Ach, wer die Frucht des Kreuzes nur bedächte
  3. Aria: Ich küsse die Rute mit freudigem Mute
  4. Rezitativo: Und zwar, was sag ich weiter?
  5. Aria: Ach, mein Heiland, würd ich doch
