Description
"Aus der Tiefen rufe ich, Herr, zu dir (Out of the depths I call, Lord, to You)," BWV 131, is among the earliest church cantatas composed by J.S. Bach. with the text based on Martin Luther's German version of Psalm 130 and the words of a chorale, the 5-movement cantata was commissioned by the minister of a church in Mühlhausen, which is where Bach lived at the time. The music integrates melodies from the chorale into the work and also illustrates Bach's continued interest in counterpoint.
