Description

In this piece, I wanted to reimagine the inriri myth into one in which women do not exist as a mere necessityof men with their main purpose being procreation. Inspired by the transformative energy of the inriri, Idreamed up a new myth in which women have always existed, and once they had lived a plentiful life theywould turn into inriri birds that would reconnect with their loved ones left behind through songs they wouldmake by carving in the trees. These playful rhythms and songs would bring joy to everyone around and wouldalso let them know their dear ones that had transitioned were still amongst them keeping them company. This piece inhabits an imaginary island in an alternate reality in which the retelling of the inriri myth prevailsand shapes the way its people treat women and process grief and death.
