Incorporating the World War I era popular song "Over There" and "Taps," A SOLDIER'S JOURNEY was premiered by Chris Gekker and The American Expeditionary Forces Headquarters Band at a WWI memorial in Washington, D.C. where "Taps" is played every night in honor of fallen service members. Ewazen's piece concludes with the solo trumpet playing "Taps," unaccompanied, as a special evocation of that tradition.
