Description
Beethoven's 'Sonata quasi una Fantasia' was composed in 1801, though an earlier in B Minor sketch for the beginning of the first movement can be dated 1799 at the latest. No. work of Beethoven's seems to be so greatly moved by aspects of intimate biography as this, which he dedicated his pupil and beloved at that time, the young Countess Giuliette Guicciardi. It was not until after Beethoven's death that the work received the universally common name 'Moonlight' Sonata from the poet Ludwig Rellstab.
