Description

Organist of Christ Church Cathedral in Oxford and a friend of Vaughan Williams, Henry G. Ley made these four transcriptions - of the slow movements of A Sea Symphony and A London Symphony , of the Alla Sarabanda from the Phantasy Quintet, and of 'Antiphon' from Five Mystical Songs - with the composer's approval. Though Ley was known as 'the Paderewski of the organ', the effectiveness of these arrangements depends as much on their skilful deployment of tone colour as on virtuosity. Previously issued separately, these pieces are now made available in one book on account of their enduring interest to organists.
