Description
Ten cellists, two bassists and a timpanist – what a sound! and what a great piece to play when ten cellists and a couple of bassists are in one place (and a timpanist if possible!) – perhaps in the break of an orchestra rehearsal, or on a music course? This relatively short piece is not hard, and is very rewarding to play. Karl Davidov was a Russian cellist who lived from 1838 to 1889. He was a child prodigy, and was considered the best cellist of his time, touring Europe extensively. Aged just 22 he was appointed professor of cello at Leipzig University. in 1876 he beat off Tchaikovsky to be appointed Director of St. Petersburg Conservertory.
