Description
Carola Bauckholt's Zugvögel is a 12-minute work for five woodwind (oboe, clarinet, alto saxophone, bass clarinet, bassoon). The work is inspired by the flight of migratory birds: Whooper Swans scream with every beat of their wings. They trace large circles before they fly off. They cross an immense airspace. Strict rules of behaviour. Formations. Pelican, Black Scoter, Canada Goose, Cormorant, Hawk, Common Loon, Harlequin Duck. Zugvögel was commissioned by the Calefax Reed Quintet and the Wittener Tage for Neue Kammermusik and premiered by the Calefax Reed Quintet in Witten on 27 April 2012.
