Multiple-percussion solo with soundscape in three movements.
Inspired by John Cage's music for percussion, and including text from Cage's LECTURE ON NOTHING, this work took First Place in the 2009 Percussive Arts Society Composition Contest. Equipment requirements:3 chinese toms (or congas or large concert toms), 5 tin cans, log drum (2 pitches), 2 cowbells (non-Cuban), 2 maracas (high and low pitch), China cymbal (preferably with rivets), shaker (mounted on foot pedal), ankle bells (attached to ankle or hi-hat stand); 5 woodblocks (at a separate station); sound system (must be stereo; performer needs headphones for the first movement); hard timpani mallets (or wood dowels), 4 woodblock mallets of different hardness, wood dowels, medium rubber mallet
