Description
Adagio (For Wadada Leo Smith), awarded the 2024 Pulitzer Prize in Music, is a 20-minute work for alto saxophone and orchestra with a range of beautiful textures at an exceptionally slow tempo. The Lucerne Festival and the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra commissioned it for "Amplifying Voices," a New Music USA initiative powered by the Sphinx Ventures Fund, with support from ASCAP and the Sorel Organization. Soloist Timothy McAllister played the Adagio premieres with the Lucerne Festival Contemporary Orchestra (world) and the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra (US).
