Description
The present edition brings together preludes and chorale preludes from three people who bear the family name Hasse. The oldest, Peter (I) Hasse, was a contemporary of Sweelinck's pupils, while his grandson, Peter (II), was influenced by Buxtehude. The generation that lies between them is represented by Nicolaus Hasse, who made remarkable contributions to the genre of the chorale fantasy. Together the seven pieces in this volume present an overview of the compositional techniques and structural principles of north German organ music for an entire century.
