Description

Though issued in 1926 in the Carnegie Edition, in the same year as the full score of The Western Playland (and of Sorrow), IVor Gurney's transcription of the work for baritone and piano diverged significantly from its source, presaging the composer's problematical afterthoughts and revisions, chiefly to the accompaniment, only recently resolved in Philip Lancaster's performing edition. Michael Pilkington's 1982 edition revisited Gurney's transcription, adding Textural Notes that clarify the differences between the two publications of 1926, and which allow the singer no difficulty in adapting from the vocal score to the original full score.

Contents:

The Aspens (C – E) The Far Country (C-sharp – E) Golden Friends (E-flat – E-flat) Is my team ploughing? (A – E-flat) Loveliest of trees (D-flat – F) March (C – F) Reveille (E – F) Twice a week (E – F)
