Description
The short story by Théophile Gautier that inspired this work, a man falls in love with a ghostly spirit that gradually reveals itself to be a deceased young woman. She first appears to him through a Venetian mirror that has misted over. Thus, it is a short poem about the immaterial that I wished to write. After a mysterious introduction, the theme of the spirit develops into a light scherzo. in the central section, the spirit seems to be taking shape and becomes more lyrical as a second theme combines with the first one. F ollowing a brie/ and slow passage of innocent purity, akin to a sketch of the young woman 's portrait, the spirit resumes its jlight and disappears in a sigh.
