Felix Mikhailovich Blumenfeld (composer, conductor, pianist, and teacher) was born in the Kherson Governorate, Russian Empire (today part of Kirovohrad, Ukraine). He studied composition with Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov, and piano with Fedor Stein at Saint Petersburg Conservatory from 1881 to 1885. His own compositions, which include a Symphony, pieces for solo piano, an Allegro de Concert for piano and orchestra, and lieder show the influence of Chopin and Tchaikovsky. Felix Blumenfeld died in Moscow on January 21st, 1931.
