Description
Arcangelo Corelli contributed to developing the art of the concerto grosso, which consists of contrasting a group of soloists (concertino) and the string orchestra with basso continuo that accompanies it (ripieno or concerto grosso).
In the Concerto grosso No. 8, the concertino is made up of two violins and cello. It so happens that we often hear this 'Christmas Concerto' in the reduced form for string quartet, which takes away none of its character.
