Description
Miriam Gideon's 1943 Flute Sonata is presented here for the first time in a 2024 engraved edition from the original manuscript (held in the New York Public Library system with Miriam Gideon's other papers). Like other flute sonatas of the mid twentieth century (Burton, 1947; Poulenc, 1957; Kuss, 1960), Gideon's Sonata is in three movements (moderate-slow-fast) that coversthe emotional range of the instrument: I. Moderato e marcato; II. Andante; and III. Allegretto Scherzando.
