Tomaschek, Johann Wenzel – Complete Song edition in 3 volumes - Volume I: Songs on poems by Johann Wolfgang von Goethe and early song compositions

Johann Wenzel Tomaschek was a significant artistic figure in Prague during the first half of the 19th century. This is evident from the large number of his students, which included the pianist Alexander Dreyschock and the renowned music critic Eduard Hanslick. Hanslick referred to Tomaschek as the ‘Dalai Lama of Prague' (Hanslick, Eduard: Aus meinem Leben, Bd. I. Berlin 1894. p. 26). Press reports and documented encounters with cultural personalities, such as Richard Wagner, Clara Wieck, Franz Liszt, Hector Berlioz, and the violinists Niccolò Paganini and Ole Bull, testify to Tomaschek's international esteem.
