Description
The title Reinlender indicates the type of dance which came to Norway from the Rhineland region in Germany. in Denmark we call this type of tune a schottis. Did it come up north via Scotland or Germany? No one knows for sure. A reinlende r is in duple meter and is traditionally played slightly slower than we had in mind with this arrangement: We simply couldn't help ourselves to infuse a little Rock'n'Roll into this nice tune. One important element here are the chops in the viola and cello parts (notated with x's in the music). A chop is a bow technique made by attacking the string from the air, completely crushing the sound to create a strong percussive effect. If you want to know more about this special technique, we recommend going to You-Tube and listening to an expert like Casey Driessen or other folk fiddlers.
The Danish String Quartet is a classical string quartet with a passion for Nordic folk music. They've brought their unique arrangements of Scandinavian folk tunes to the concert stage and recorded them on a highly successful CD. Now, due to popular demand, sheet music of these meticulously crafted arrangments is being made available for the first time in a carefully prepared edition. We hope you enjoy it!
