Composer's Note:

I originally wrote Magic Hour in 2001 as a short interlude in my piano trio Swing Shift, a work inspired by New York City at various hours in the nighttime. The "magic" or golden hour is the glorious fleeting moment at sunset on a clear day when the entire city is bathed in a warm, glorious glow. Over the years, the short (2 min.) work took on a life of its own and during a moment of pandemic-induced productivity, I arranged it for viola and piano so Monica and I could have something fun to do.
