Description
These pieces are a selection from "15 Hungarian Folksongs" (UE6370), a collection of old songs and dance melodies for piano composed by Bela Bartók from 1914 to 1917. This arrangement for a recorder ensemble hopes to familiarize children and young people, who have not yet had access to Bartók's bigger works, with the composer.
These arrangements are less difficult than the piano works, yet the selected instrumentation is completely suitable for the content. As Bartók commented in his violin duets in 1932, "In their first years of study, students should become familiar with works which unite the ingenuous simplicity of folk music with its melodic and rhythmic characteristics."
