Description

Pamela Z's Attention, written for string quartet, video, tape and gadgets (mobile devices), incorporates multimedia elements into a fifteen-minute chamber piece with an ingenious theatrical dimension. The work, "inspired by the ways in which our focus and attention are constantly challenged in this era of endless notifications and non-stop communication feeds," in the words of the composer, "requires the quartet to make their way through the score in the face of a series of mounting interruptions."

Commissioned by the Del Sol Quartet, who gave the piece its world premiere at San Francisco's Exploratorium in November 2016, Attention is published by Edition Peters in recognition of Z's selection as the winner of the 2020 Hinrichsen Award by the American Academy of Arts and Letters.
