Description
George Crumb's first work for percussion ensemble, Kronos – Kryptos: Four Tableaux for Percussion Quintet received its world premiere at the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center in April 2019 and appears here in a facsimile of the composer's autograph manuscript. The composer revised the fourth movement ("Appalachian Echoes") in May 2020.
Due to the distance between players onstage, and in order to heighten certain theatrical elements in the score, a conductor is recommended for performance. This is a performing score. A minimum of five copies are required for performances.
- 22-minute work for percussion quintet
- Requires five percussionists, large battery of instruments
- George Crumb's first piece for percussion instruments alone
- Requires extended playing techniques, including shouting, whispering and pantomime
- Conductor recommended
