Description
Alexander Glasunov's chorus "Vniz po matushke po Volge" is unique, largely unknown and unpublished in the West so far. His elaboration of this elegiac Russian folk song evolves from the unanimously intonated melody into a powerful eight-part "stream". The robber chief's Volga song is circulating in various versions and is still very popular today, especially among all-male choirs. Among others recordings with Fyodor Shalyapin or various Cossack choirs are legendary.
The choral score is underlined with a 4-5-part setting which can be used either as a piano accompaniment (only in rehearsals) or as a variant for a smaller choir.
